The BMW N54 engine is renowned for its incredible power potential. Many owners are pushing these engines well beyond 500 hp, with some reaching 1000 hp. Truly staggering performance can be achieved with the right components from quality performance companies, including a capable high-performance intercooler that can manage the increased Intake Air Temperatures (IAT) that arise from the increased power and boost pressures characteristic of these vehicles.
A typical intercooler is constructed with plastic end tanks crimped onto a 4-inch (105mm width) x 5-inch (127mm height) core. This may be sufficient to keep IATs in check on a completely stock/unmodified vehicle, but once users begin to increase power through bolt-on modifications, tuning, and built engines, the stock intercooler becomes the Achilles' heel of the system: IATs will quickly climb out of the optimal range and drastically reduce vehicle performance. CSF offers a high-performance N54 intercooler featuring a stepped core, bar/plate design. This intercooler, requiring no modifications for installation, features a 5.5-inch (140mm) stepped/larger core section with an 8.25-inch (210mm) frontal area. Constructed with CSF's industry-exclusive rounded bar/plate. The rounded frontal area of the cooling bars allows for better airflow into the core. Airflow enters the core surface, and instead of dissipating as it impacts a flat surface like all competing products, it flows around the round bar surface and into the core, providing significantly better performance compared to both the stock design (flat surface) and all other aftermarket competitors (all have flat tube or bar surfaces). A massive improvement over the stock unit, and capable of handling even the most advanced N54 builds. Will handle 1000 hp with ease!
