The new 2nd generation B58 engine found in the Mk5 Supra has already proven itself to be an incredible platform for performance enthusiasts – in just a few short years since its release, it has taken the performance and motorsport industry by storm. Customers are already pushing past the 1000hp mark in their B58-powered vehicles equipped with a CSF manifold. The factory water-cooled charge air manifold for the B58 engine is suitable for vehicles with few or no modifications, but it truly begins to show its weakness in vehicles with bolt-on modifications, turbo upgrades, increased fueling (e.g. port injection), and tuning. The factory intercooler system is also known to suffer from heat soak in demanding track conditions such as time attack, endurance racing, drag racing, drifting, and even aggressive street driving. This can lead to the engine pulling power due to high intake air temperatures (IATs), and if a certain temperature threshold is reached, the vehicle's ECU may engage "limp mode" as it attempts to protect the engine.
