The complete performance package for both high flow and cold air for Porsche 911 (991.1) Turbo / Turbo S!
To truly distribute the flow across the entire core, we use cast, flow-verified tanks. A well-designed tank shape is crucial to fully utilize the heat transfer properties and to maximize flow. Flow and cooling are also directly dependent on the core's size, and to enable the use of the thickest possible core, the upper air guides are replaced with carbon fiber guides, designed by do88 based on 3D scanning. This guarantees a perfect fit to both the car's structure and our larger intercoolers. To maximize the effects of heat transfer, these air guides are supplied with proper sealing strips against both the intercooler and the chassis, so that the cooling air does not take the easiest path past the core. The connections on the intercooler are a full 70 mm to maximize flow and eliminate bottlenecks in the system. This means that this kit comes with new hoses in all four positions, all designed and CFD-tested for optimal flow. The hoses on the turbocharger outlet are made of material with particularly high heat resistance, rated for a continuous temperature of 240°C. Overall, the weight increase is relatively low given the intercoolers' size, density, and the fact that they are made entirely of aluminum. They weigh 8.5 kg per side compared to 3.1 kg for the original 991 intercooler. This is certainly an increase, but it is more than justified considering the performance upgrade this kit provides!
At the beginning of the development process, we spent a lot of time figuring out the most advantageous way to build the Y-pipe, and in this product, you see the result of our decisions and our development work! Our pipe has both very good flow and low weight, which we achieved by combining light mandrel-bent aluminum pipes with a high-quality 3D freeform designed cast part for the more complex shapes. On the cast part, we then chose to weld CNC machined connections for dump valves and crankcase ventilation. This design provides a significant increase in flow with only a slight increase in weight.
Regarding performance, do88's BigPack provides a significant reduction in inlet temperature! The graph below shows the difference compared to 991 OEM. All data was collected with our AIM racelogger during five directly consecutive runs. Full throttle acceleration from 50-250 km/h in a Porsche 997 with Stage 1 software. No cooling between runs, just full throttle! During all runs, the AC was turned off, Sport Plus activated.
First, five runs were performed with OEM 991 intercoolers installed. Stop, quick part change on site. A few minutes of test driving and then five runs with do88 intercoolers in exactly the same way as with OEM a few minutes earlier. The temperature drop is striking, a maximum difference of 17°C. Cooling is important, but so is flow. After many hours at the drawing board, refining and perfecting the tanks combined with a core to meet our requirements, we have a result that speaks for itself. The do88 MERA intercooler kit is much more efficient in both heat transfer and flow. With our own Superflow SF-1020 Probench, we have verified the flow as a complete system, with hoses and pipes for both the do88 BigPack and OEM 991. What you see is what you get – true performance!
