The world's first model-specific air filter system for Porsche 992 Turbo, Turbo S!
With the launch of the 992, Porsche had abandoned the previous intercooler and air filter system layout that the 996, 997, and 991 had. Each car has its special conditions, and the design of the intercooler system on the 992 is completely different from previous generations of Porsche turbo cars, and this also affects the car's air intake. In contrast to previous generations, the 992 no longer has a common air filter box in the engine bay for both turbochargers. The air filter boxes are now located behind the respective rear fenders and are thus better protected from the engine bay's heat; intake air is drawn through the air intake in the engine lid and through the air intakes in the rear fenders. This solution is more thought out than previous ones, but there is definitely room for improvement – we give you the do88 carbon fiber intake system!
The efficiency of a turbo car is directly dependent on the inlet temperature and back pressure in the system. What is sometimes forgotten is that good flow before the turbo compressor is equally important for it to work efficiently. Reduced negative pressure and cold intake air allow the turbo to pump a larger air mass, which ultimately affects the amount of oxygen reaching the intake – this generates power. In short, there are significant power gains to be had with a good intake system! During our years of development, we have come to see the clear connection between intake temperature, flow to the turbochargers, and how this affects the car's power. With this knowledge, it was clear from the beginning that we wanted to develop a completely closed system that is not affected by the ambient heat in the same way an open system is. We also saw that there was room for improvement beyond what a model-specific panel filter offers.
We began our development by 3D scanning the entire given space on the car to be able to work rationally with the products in a CAD environment. The entire system is flow-optimized; radii and angles have been reworked in several rounds to achieve the best results! The finished product is CFD-verified and, of course, flow-verified in our own Superflow SF-1020 flow bench, so that you, as a customer, know what you are buying.
The do88 air filter box is made of vacuum-formed, prepreg carbon fiber mat of the finest quality. To achieve significantly better airflow than original, the system is space-optimized as much as possible to accommodate a large conical filter with the best cotton filter media from the renowned BMC! Our system replaces the car's entire original air box and provides a true performance increase. This kit includes silicone hoses with a discreet, matte finish.
This kit comes with everything you need for installation on your Porsche 992 Turbo or Turbo S and is available in three variants:
1. Intake system only with 66mm connection that fits original turbo inlet hoses.
2. Intake system with 66mm connection together with do88 66mm turbo inlet hoses.
3. Intake system with 80mm connection together with do88 80mm turbo inlet hoses.
All three provide improved flow (see diagram for differences). It should be noted that the 80mm connection model takes up more space on the inside of the rear tires, which should be considered with other modifications.
We are proud of the performance upgrade this provides, especially on tuned cars that require more oxygen, but even a strictly stock car benefits from the increased flow!
