GiroDisc
Girodisc brake rotors are a direct replacement for Original Equipment (OE) brake rotors, requiring no modifications for installation. The rotors mount directly to the vehicle's stock hardware and are designed to work perfectly with the original calipers. This approach preserves the factory brake bias and ensures proper ABS function, unlike the installation of full big brake kits.
The Girodisc front rotors weigh approximately 9.2 kg compared to the stock 11.3 kg, reducing unsprung and rotating mass. This results in quicker suspension response and improved acceleration.
The center hat is machined from 6061-T6 aluminum, meeting US aerospace standards. The friction ring is cast from Girodisc's proprietary iron, manufactured and machined entirely in the USA. The design features Curved Vanes, a solution adopted from motorsport: as the rotor spins, it acts like a centrifugal pump, drawing cooling air through itself.
The friction ring and hat are connected via a floating mount using 8 or 10 high-strength steel pins manufactured to Girodisc specifications and coated with a cadmium layer for corrosion protection. The pins bear the primary load during braking, allowing for axial and radial "float" between the components. The mounting hardware is constructed from Grade 12 alloy steel with hardened washers. To prevent rattling with cold brakes, spring-type anti-rattle washers are used. These allow the rotor to expand when heated but eliminate the characteristic noise of floating systems. This design also helps the rotor self-center relative to the brake pads.
After installing the Girodisc system, subsequent maintenance is simplified: when the friction ring wears out, only the iron ring needs to be replaced, while the aluminum hat can be reused.
